Over RUB 8.4 million in legal costs awarded in one of Russia’s most significant bankruptcy rulings

Tenzor Legal successfully represented its client in a high-profile bankruptcy dispute involving one of Russia’s largest engineering and EPC contractors, a company that has delivered major industrial and energy infrastructure projects across the country.

The Moscow Commercial Court awarded more than RUB 8.4 million in legal costs, making it one of the most significant legal costs awards seen in recent Russian bankruptcy practice.

To put this into perspective, most notable bankruptcy-related legal costs awards reported over the past year ranged between RUB 1.8 million and RUB 5 million. The amount recovered in this case therefore stands well above the typical range.

Beyond the monetary value, the decision is particularly noteworthy for its detailed analysis of the criteria used to assess the reasonableness of legal costs. The court examined the complexity of the dispute, the scope of legal work performed, the duration of the proceedings, the number of hearings, and the supporting evidence submitted by counsel.

The outcome reflects the team’s ability to build a comprehensive evidentiary record and present a persuasive legal argument, resulting in one of the largest recoveries of legal costs in recent Russian insolvency litigation.
